Munich Schrannenhalle

One visit to the Schrannenhalle indoor food hall and you quickly realize there is more to Munich than schnitzel, bratwurst, and beer. Originally a grain trade building built in 1853 at the behest of the Bavarian king Maximilian II to bring peace to the neighboring Viktualienmarkt, the 110 meters long and 25 meters wide wrought iron and glass building now houses 30 different market stalls selling everything from olive oil, German wine, and coffee to antipasti and pastries. Tasting tours run each day (except Sun, holidays) at 13:00, where for €24 and a couple of hours you get to sample almost everything on offer. The first friday of every month, a musical guest entertains shoppers and diners from 17:00 - 20:00 clock, free admission.
