Feynan Ecolodge
Five miles from the closest paved road and tucked away beneath the craggy mountains of the Dana Biosphere Preserve in Jordan, Feynan Ecolodge is an candle-lit oasis in an otherwise desolate desert landscape. Each room unique, the 26 room lodge is run so as to limit its eco footprint and benefit the local community, sourcing all products and services from neighboring bedouin families and getting all electricity from solar arrays installed on the roof. Feynan is more than just a place to stay. After enjoying an organic breakfast of local vegetarian delicacies such as shraak (flat bread), felafel, yogurt, honey, and jam, hike or bike amongst the pink oleander and ancient ruins in Wadi Feynan, or share a traditional tea with one of the local families. After dinner, be sure to retire to the open rooftop terrace to marvel at the moon and stars and see the rings of Saturn through the 10 inch Meade telescope, all unobscured by any light pollution.
