City Kayaking Dublin
Most tourists to Dublin experience the city on foot or by bus. Instead, why not get your hands wet and earn that pint of Guinness on the River Liffey. Running right through the heart of the city, dividing the north side from the south side (and creating a long-standing friendly rivalry), the Liffey has functioned as a key trade route for centuries, from the early Viking beginnings of the city up until more recent times. From their base at City Moorings near the Irish harp shaped Samuel Beckett bridge, City Kayaking Dublin offers kayak rentals, tours, lessons, and group activities along the river. During the day or in the romantic twilight of evening, explore Dublin’s famous river, take in some of the city’s most iconic landmarks such as Temple Bar, the Ha’Penny Bridge, and Four Courts Dublin, and see the city from a completely different angle. No special gear required--the group will kit you out with all the relevant safety gear and you’ll be accompanied by qualified and knowledgeable guides following along in safety boats. For the more adventurous set really looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Dublin, you can take a 3 hour, 10 km kayak trip down the wilder section of the River Liffey, as far as the Islandbridge Weir. This is one of the more beautiful parts of Dublin, rich in wildlife and greenery. Enjoy a snack before heading back to the city center where you can head to the nearest pub and tuck into that well earned stew and pint of the “Blond in the Black Dress”.
